Cabin Suitcase on Low-Cost Airlines
If we have already purchased a plane ticket and are eager to start packing our suitcase, we need to pause for a moment and consider what kind of luggage we actually want and can bring with us. Each airline sets its own rules regarding the maximum quantity, weight, and dimensions of both carry-on and checked baggage. It’s worth familiarizing yourself with these regulations in advance, especially those concerning cabin suitcases, to avoid troublesome situations at the airport.
Carry-On vs. Checked Baggage
Before focusing on the carry-on baggage size limits for various airlines, let’s briefly discuss the two types of luggage you can bring on a trip. The basic type is carry-on baggage, which must fit under the seat or on the overhead bin above passengers’ heads. This is non-checked baggage. For this type of luggage, it’s important to note the differences between airlines, as they can be just a few centimeters. This can be very important when choosing the right cabin suitcase. If you are going on a longer trip, you will probably need to bring more items, and therefore a larger suitcase, or even several. Such additional baggage must be checked in and must meet the weight requirements set by the airline.
Carry-On Baggage on Ryanair
According to Ryanair’s baggage policy effective from November 1, 2018, there are two types of carry-on baggage. First, the free one included in the ticket price. This is one small bag that you can bring on board. It should fit under the seat and measure no more than 40 x 20 x 25 cm. There is no weight limit for this bag.
The main carry-on bag, measuring 55 x 40 x 20 cm and weighing up to 10 kg, requires purchasing a ticket with priority boarding. After buying this service, you can bring two carry-on bags – a small bag and a cabin suitcase.
Carry-On Baggage on Wizzair
The situation here is similar to Ryanair. On this airline, the free small carry-on bag that must fit under the seat measures 40 x 30 x 20 cm. However, there is a weight limit of 10 kg.
Additionally, if you pay for the Wizz Priority service, you can bring one more additional wheeled suitcase, also weighing up to 10 kg and measuring 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
Carry-On Baggage on EasyJet
EasyJet allows you to bring one cabin suitcase free of charge, which means one carry-on bag measuring 56 x 45 x 25 cm, importantly including handles and wheels. There is no specified weight limit, but the passenger must be able to place it on the overhead shelf themselves.
Additionally, passengers who purchase one of the special fares can also bring a small bag measuring 45 x 36 x 20 cm. The weight requirements are similar to those for cabin suitcases.
Carry-On Baggage on AirAsia
These Asian low-cost airlines allow passengers to bring up to two pieces of carry-on baggage, provided they meet certain conditions. First, the cabin suitcase must not exceed 56 x 36 x 23 cm. Additionally, you can bring one small bag or laptop bag with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 10 cm. Very importantly, the combined weight of both pieces must not exceed 7 kg.
All these airlines also allow checked baggage, but this involves registration and additional fees.
